Self-Massage and Yoga Therapy Workshop Series

Self-massage techniques will focus on releasing tension in the hips and legs (lower and upper portion) to beneficially influence everyday movement patterns (ie. walking) as well as the body’s mechanics of sitting. This workshop will go beyond just stretching muscles that feel tight, we will look at how to isolate and strengthen the deeper muscles of the hip that impact the movement and health of the knees. Especially helpful for those who experience chronic tension in their hips.

Self-massage techniques will focus on releasing stress and tissue tension from the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Corrective movements from physical therapy and modified yoga poses to create sustainable ranges of motion to strengthen muscles that often contribute to feelings of soreness, pain, and misalignment in the upper body. Especially helpful for those that have had prior rotator cuff strain/sprain or suffer from shoulder and neck stiffness and pain.

Yet even though healthy nutrition and physical activity are indeed important for health, there are things that can weight on our centenarian potential even more, things that we all too often sacrifice while we chase fad diets and the newest cardio workouts. Friendships. Purpose in life. Empathy. Kindness. Science shows that these "soft" health drivers are often more powerful than diet and exercise.
